I start the new year thinking about small footprints, small gestures, and the unremarkable. The market has rewarded so many extravagant, bloated productions and look what has resulted. It is time to slow down and reward the local economy, the handmade, the miniature, friends, and the art of doing nothing. Reflection on where we are going, the principled life, what we eat, how we live, what we think is paramount. All the best in 2009.

A delicate and intricate book, narrated alternately from the point of view of a murdered man, a gold coin, a tree, a master illuminator, et al. There is much to love so far in my reading. A man is murdered, would be lovers communicate by messenger, as clashing beliefs and art theories play out in 16th C Istanbul.
